Downtown Harvest CSA is operated entirely by volunteer effort. Since we launched our CSA in 2005 we have more than doubled our membership. That means we have many more people, administration, and coverage to manage, along with the fact that more produce is delivered to the garage each week. Each year we chose to grow our membership, and the only way we could do that is to count on all members to contribute their time once a season.
When enrolling in Downtown Harvest, we all made the commitment to contribute time to the CSA. Some serve year-round on the core group, others serve as site coordinators and event planners, and most help on delivery night. On those evenings, the volunteers work from 5-8:15 pm and help set up the garage with tables for the produce, weigh vegetables, manage the sign-in area, and provide information to passers-by. At the end of the evening they pack up the donated shares for the emergency food pantry and clean up the garage area. Members should receive an email with details on how to sign up to volunteer.
